And On The Job Training
If you have an interest in serving the public, you may want to consider a career in law enforcement and there are many Criminal Justice Degree Programs available, to help you create that career. If you are interested in working for Homeland Security for example you may want to start out as a local police officer to get some experience or get a college degree first. That way you can by-pass the entry level jobs in Homeland Security and get a starting position that is in line with your main career goal.
The best thing about going through law enforcement training is that it will tell you if you really want to get into it or not. Many people have the best of intentions but find out it is just not for them. It takes a special personality to be able to cope with a law enforcement job and you may find it is not for you. You may want to talk to local police officers in your city; they can tell you a little about what it is like before you even begin law enforcement training. Also talk to them about their higher education choices; did they do a full Criminal Justice Degree Program or just a few college or technical courses and how has that helped them in their careers.
You may even want to talk to someone at the police station regarding the job law enforcement training and what it might entail. Also, what Online Courses are good and how they fit into a Criminal Justice Degree Program as well as what your career options might be once you are done. They may even be able to tell you where most people who just get the on-the-job law enforcement training end up after they compete their training and where the officers who also get college degrees end up once they graduate.
It is a good idea to talk to your family before you begin your law enforcement training. They should at least be aware of what you want to do. If they try to talk you out of it then really let them know it’s important to you. You will find that law enforcement training might be tough and a Criminal Justice Degree Program might be even tougher but if you really want to do it, you will want the support of those who love you. You might be surprised to find that when the going gets tough for you, the support and encouragement from your family is what lifts you up and helps you complete your dream.
